In a small prospective trial, 6 months of DHEA replacement therapy with 50 mg per day showed enhanced increases in fat-free mass in 18 elderly individuals compared to sex- and age-matched controls who were not receiving DHEA.5 Other studies of DHEA regimens in women suggest beneficial effects on well-being and mood and sexuality.
